This picture was a publicity stunt by Air UK to highlight the number of female pilots we had in the Company. I believe we had more than any other UK airline then, including BA. By no means all of the girls were able to assemble so this was not the total number.
It was organised in association with a tabloid (Mirror, I think) and I was asked “What’s it like flying with a woman?” .. to which I replied “You might as well ask me what it’s like flying with someone with blue eyes or red hair? The question is as just as irrelevant” …. they didn’t print that reply!!
Some wag in the paper asked “The real question is: who’s flying the scheduled services with all this lot in one place??!!”
